It is always an honour when authors come back to us with follow-up publications. A big congratulations to Cornwell Dauds on the publication of his latest book, ‘Dauds on Finance and Derivatives’! This is the third book we have had the privilege of publishing. The final product shows the hard work and dedication by Cornwell and the Staging Post team. We look forward to working on the next one!

As a publishing veteran, Cornwell shares his tips and insights into writing and publishing. For more information about Cornwell’s books, visit his website. An author website is a great way to market and showcase books.

The interview

Q: What inspired you to write your book?

A: The desire to share my knowledge with people. There’s no sense in having all this knowledge and not sharing it. Writing also compels you to demonstrate a mastery of the topic you choose to write on. I enjoyed the challenge of demonstrating that mastery through writing.

Q: What was your favourite part of publishing your book?

A: Interacting with the editors and design crew at Staging Post, and seeing how mere written words mature into a fully fledged book. The editors especially gave me the comfort that my written words will be understood by the reader. My concern was always whether, while what I was writing made sense to me, it would make sense to the reader. There’s no sense in writing if the reader won’t get it!

Q: What advice would you give an author planning to publish their first book?

A: Understand that the writing and publication are separate. You, as the author, are entirely in charge and control of the writing. Appreciate that you will need to rely on others for assistance with the publication. Make sure you find good and reputable people to help you with this aspect – people who will capably manage the project once you’ve completed the writing part. I, for one, have received a superb service from the Staging Post crew at Jacana Media for my three books. They were an immense resource when it came to the editing, proofreading, indexing, design, printing and conversion of my books to ebook.
